How to make a Product Hunt launch video that people actually watch
Product Hunt visitors decide in seconds. A launch video that works is short, shows the real product early and is readable with the sound off. Here is the structure that keeps showing up in launches that do well.
The 35-second structure
- 0-4 s, the problem. Two or three short lines, cut faster each time. "Friday deploys. Broken builds. Lost weekends."
- 4-7 s, the name. Your product name lands and holds for a full second. This is the frame people remember.
- 7-28 s, three features. One feature per shot, each with a one-word title and one readable sentence. Zoom into the part of the screen that matters.
- 28-32 s, proof. A number, a result or a quick list of smaller features.
- 32-35 s, the call to action. Name and URL, held long enough to read.
Rules that make the difference
- Cut on the beat. Cuts that land on the music feel intentional; cuts that do not feel sloppy.
- Big type. Headlines should be at least 5% of the frame height so they read in a phone-sized preview.
- Few flashes. Two or three full-screen hits are punchy; ten are tiring.
- Show the result. End each feature on the moment it worked, not on the click.
The fast way
LaunchLoop's Trailer mode builds exactly this structure from your recording: it finds the clicks and on-screen changes, writes the chapters from the text on your screen, scores it with original music and cuts every shot on the beat. You type the product name and press Make.
