Product demo videos: 9 best practices for walkthroughs that convert
A launch trailer sells the feeling. A product demo has a different job: it teaches someone how to get value, step by step. The best demos are calm, readable and short.
Nine practices
- One goal per video. "Deploy your first site", not "everything Deployly does".
- Number the steps. "Step 2 of 3" tells viewers how much is left, which keeps them watching.
- Real speed for actions. Viewers should be able to follow along on their own screen.
- Zoom, then hold. Zoom into the control, then hold long enough to read the result.
- Explain in one line. A short headline plus one line of context beats a paragraph.
- Captions on. Captions keep the explanation usable when the viewer has sound off.
- Hide private data. Emails, API keys and customer names leak in demos more than anywhere else.
- Recap at the end. A checklist of what was covered makes the demo feel complete.
- Quiet music. A soft bed under a walkthrough helps; a drum-heavy track distracts.
Do it in one click
LaunchLoop's Product Demo mode is built on these rules: numbered steps with a progress bar, one explanatory line per step, a recap, calm music and Smart Redact for anything private on screen.
