How to blur emails, API keys and card numbers in screen recordings
Every week someone posts a polished demo with a live API key, a customer's email or a real card number in the corner. It is rarely carelessness; it is that a screen has more on it than you notice while recording.
What typically leaks
- Email addresses in account menus and tables
- API keys and tokens in settings pages and terminals
- Card numbers in billing screens
- Phone numbers and IP addresses in logs and admin panels
The manual way
Scrub through the recording, draw a blur box over each item, and adjust it every time the camera moves. It works, but zooms and 3D angles make it tedious, and it is easy to miss one frame.
The automatic way
LaunchLoop's Smart Redact reads the text on screen with Windows' built-in text recognition, on your PC. It recognises emails, card numbers (checked with the Luhn algorithm so ordinary numbers are left alone), API keys from common providers, phone numbers and IP addresses, then covers them for as long as they are visible. The blur is anchored to the recording itself, so it stays on target through every zoom and 3D tilt in the final film.
Nothing is uploaded. Recognition, detection and blurring all happen locally.
